Suizid und Suizidversuch im Verlauf schizophrener Erkrankungen

Abstract
During the years 1968–1973, a survey encompassing 755 patients who were formerly schizophrenic inpatients in the psychiatric clinic of the University of Bonn during the period 1945–1959 was conducted. Of the 755 patients, 147 were decreased, and of these, 30 (4 % of the total) were determined to have died as a result of suicide. 98 (19.5 % of the total) of the 502 personally examined had attempted suicide one or more times. The risk for those for whom the serious entertainment of suicide were demonstrable was 41.2 % and was not less than the suicide risk for cyclothymic patients. The suicide attempts show a relative independence from environmental influences and a coincidence with productive-psychotical symptoms.
