Abstract
We will describe precision lineshape measurements of CH4, both self- and air-broadened, and of HF in rare gas buffers using a tunable difference-frequency laser spectrometer. We find that the lineshape cannot always be characterized by the simple Lorentzian or Voigt profiles usually employed in atmospheric modelling. The effect of collisional narrowing of the Doppler distribution is quite evident for certain light molecules of atmospheric interest. Keywords
