Abstract
Work‐function measurements for the nitrogen‐tungsten system have been carried out on a polycrystalline ribbon using space‐charge‐limited and retarding‐field diodes. The theoretical limitations of the two techniques are discussed and the controversy concerning the sign of the work‐function change examined. Keywords
