The Transmission of Candida Albicans by Cadaveric Allografts

Abstract
Transplant patients (2) suffered Candida infections after receiving homografts from a cadaveric donor whose urine culture yielded C. albicans greater than 100,000 colonies/ml. In both patients the infections became apparent after large doses of methylprednisolone were administered for acute rejection. Flucytosine was inadequate therapy but modified doses of amphotericin B served to eradicate the infection in each case. Donor urine cultures yielding C. albicans should be interpreted as representing a transmissible infection.
