Abstract
A German drug [long dash]Miracil D (l-methyl-4-diethylaminoethylaminothioxanthone hydrochloride)[long dash]has been shown to be effective against Schistosoma mansoni and S. haematobium infections in mice and in monkeys. It is most effective against adult worms. It is highly effective in treating both urinary and intestinal schistosomiases in man, although complete cures apparently are rare. The proper dosage is discussed and the degree of toxicity indicated. Further study is necessary before the complete value of the drug can be determined and its use in medical practice established. Keywords
