Abstract
This essay supports the importance of the speech communication discipline by demonstrating the centrality of rhetorical communication in corporate advocacy, or issue management. The essay (1) characterizes an emerging field that reflects an ancient tradition of issue analysis, (2) shows how effective advocates are trained through speech communication curricula, and (3) suggests additional areas of help in educating effective issue managers. Keywords
