Abstract
Manganese zoning in almandine garnet is interpreted by the use of calculations based on the Rayleigh fractionation model. A close similarity of a measured manganese zoning profile and a calculated profile indicates that the assumptions used in the calculations are good. These assumptions are: complete removal of garnet from a homogeneous reservoir as the garnet crystallizes, and a nearly constant manganese fractionation factor between garnet and reservoir. Keywords
