New evidence on the quantum efficiency of Nd : YAG

Abstract
We have observed that the thermal loading in a pumped Nd : YAG laser rod is reduced by the action of stimulated emission. Preliminary results allow us to deduce that the quantum efficiency of the 4F3/2 upper laser level is 0.63±0.10.Keywords
