A Theory of Laminated Composite Plates

Abstract
This paper is concerned with small deformations of a class of laminated layered composite plates utilizing a direct formulation of the thermomechanical theory of shells, which is constructed on the basis of a two-dimensional continuum model called a Cosserat surface. After providing the main ingredients of the direct formulation, a fairly general linear theory is developed which includes both dynamical and thermal effects. Some applications to sandwich plates are discussed in detail.
