Abstract
A strong radio-frequency field applied to an expanding plasma is found to produce a shock at the surface where the local plasma frequency matches the applied frequency. The shock propagates towards the upstream overdense region with the ion-acoustic speed relative to the plasma flow. The density jump at the shock front is found to be proportional to the field amplitude. Keywords
