Abstract
This report describes an exploratory study of a technique which permits descriptions of household purchases (or sales orders) to be transmitted from the home directly to a remote computer. Descriptive entries were first encoded numerically and then subsequently transmitted using a 12-key telephone hand set. For transmissions representing 10 product categories, 98.9% of the data entries were accurate, after one opportunity was given to re-key any entry rejected by the system; for transmission of 20 product categories the corresponding value was 97.9%.Keywords
