Abstract
THE PURPOSE of this report is to propose an answer to the question: Can the dermatologist do psychotherapy? We—one a psychiatrist and the other a dermatologist—have worked in more or less close association for several years and have concluded that the answer to this question is a qualified "Yes." In the present report we shall attempt to specify and illustrate the important qualifications which we attach to our affirmative answer: (1) qualifications for the dermatologist; (2) qualifications for the patient; (3) qualifications for the psychotherapy. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE DERMATOLOGIST The dermatologist who asks, "Can I do psychotherapy?'' must first ask himself this question: "Do I enjoy helping people to resolve emotional problems, or is it a burden for me to provide this kind of service for patients ?''
