Abstract
Life history and production dynamics of the immature stages of the stonefly A. mediana Banks and the caddisfly D. modesta Banks are described from Walker Branch, a woodland (deciduous) stream in eastern Tennessee [USA]. Data are based on benthic samples collected monthly from Dec. 1972 through Dec. 1973. A. mediana had a 2 yr life cycle. Hatching occurred from Dec. through the following May. D. modesta had 2 overlapping generations each with a 1 yr life cycle. Annual production rates of A. mediana and D. modesta according to the instantaneous growth method were 98.7 and 585.7 mg/m2 per yr, respectively. For D. modesta most of the annual production was from the summer generation (adult flight in the summer), with a lesser amount contributed by the spring generation (adult flight in the spring). This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
