Abstract
To the Editor: In a recent article Mroczek et al. (N Engl J Med 285:603–606, 1971) reported favorable control of blood pressure in patients with accelerated hypertension by the rapid intravenous administration of diazoxide. No mention is made in this article of the possible complications that might result from this therapy.I should like to call attention to an article in the Journal 1 as well as a more recent article by Charles and Danforth2 in which the serious complication of hyperglycemic hyperosmolar coma developed after the use of diazoxide in the above manner for the control of hypertension.
