Abstract
Parson's view that children were prepared for legitimate social life in classrooms and that the playground was the potential nursery of crime is challenged and the order reversed: deviance is learnt in classrooms rather than playgrounds. Pupils’ accounts of order and disorder in school are given and contrasted with behaviour in the world created by children for themselves in playgrounds and elsewhere. Keywords
