Abstract
The autopsy findings in a male patient, 75 years of age, with longstanding idiopathic hypoparathyroidism are presented in detail. This case had been previously reported as a clinical and laboratory study because of several unusual features and because of the infrequency of reported instances of idiopathic hypoparathyroidism in general. The most important autopsy finding was the identification of atrophic parathyroid tissue. This was compared, using corresponding photomicrographs, with tissue from a normal gland, and with that from a hyperplastic gland. Also, the findings in our patient, which demonstrated no other significant endocrine abnormalities, were compared with the findings in the other 8 autopsied cases previously reported in medical literature. Keywords
