Abstract
Expressions are derived for the distribution and expected value of uptime for systems subject to both repairable and nonrepairable failures. The results are applicable to a wide range of situations, including the analysis of systems subject to major structural failure, product or process obsolescence, or failure of critical nonrepairable subsystems. Several examples are investigated, including multiple component series systems, systems containing standby redundant nonrepairable subsystems and systems containing standby redundant repairable subsystems. Keywords
