Serotyping of Ocular Pseudomonas aeruginosa Clinical Isolates

Abstract
We serotyped clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from 49 patients with corneal ulcers, 12 with other anterior segment infections, and seven with endophthalmitis using the International Antigenic Typing System and the Fisher system. Ninety-eight percent and 78% of the isolates reacted with the International Antigenic Typing System and Fisher immunotypes, respectively. We found that the pattern of International Antigenic Typing System serotypes parallels the pattern found in organisms isolated from systemic infections. There was no predominant serotype isolated from either corneal or intraocular infections.
