Positron Annihilation Rates in Lanthanum Hydrides

Abstract
Positron annihilation rates λ1 and λ2 are reported for a series of lanthanum hydride samples of compositions from LaH2.0 to LaH2.9. From LaH2.0 to LaH2.7, λ1 was approximately constant at 3.36 nsec1. At higher compositions, λ1 increased with increasing hydrogen content. A slower rate component λ2 was observed for annihilation in lanthanum hydrides, but the associated intensity was very low. New data are also reported for lithium hydride as follows: λ1=3.12 nsec1, λ2=0.68 nsec1, and I2=6.30%.
