Infrared Observations and a Model of Per

Infrared light curves of β Per are presented for wavelengths of 2·2, 3·6, 4·8 and 8·6 µ. From these are deduced a model of the system which has a gas stream flowing from the K0 star to the B8 star. Its temperature and electron density vary from 5 to 20 × 10³ K and 30 to 5 × 10¹¹ cm^–3 respectively. The mass transfer rate is $$1\cdot 8\times {10}^{-8}\,{M}_{\odot}/\text{yr}.$$
