Abstract
A spectrographic procedure for the determination of scandium, yttrium, and the rare earths in thorium is described. These elements were separated from thorium dissolved in nitric acid using Dowex 1 anion resin and subsequently analyzed by the Copper Spark Method. Quantitative recoveries of known amounts added to thorium were obtained for Sc, Y, Ce, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Er, and Yb. The values for lanthanum averaged about 90% of the amount added. Keywords
