Abstract
Collapse of liver parenchyma, as seen in acute hepatitis with bridging necrosis, can be distinguished from new fibre formation in chronic liver disease by orcein staining. This shows abundant elastic fibres in association with fibrosis, but not in areas of collapse.Keywords
