Abstract
The recombination of bromine atoms has been found to result in the emission of an orange–red glow. Analysis of the banded spectrum has resulted in the identification of the transition responsible for the visible emission as [Formula: see text] The results of a kinetic study of the glow indicate that the emission is second order in [Br] and first order in [Br2]. Several detailed preassociation mechanisms for the reaction are discussed. Keywords
