Abstract
The transient response of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) pumped at 1.48 /spl mu/m, taking into account the gain-saturation effects due to the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), is studied theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical model is used to predict the gain saturation and recovery times of an EDFA and its effects to the amplification of optical pulses. Keywords
