Abstract
Preview “My wife is having a heart attack!” This may be true, or it may be a false alarm. In either case, the situation is an emergency from the moment of the call for help. The first step is to confirm or rule out the suspected diagnosis as quickly as possible. The second is to begin appropriate treatment immediately; for example, it may be prudent to have patients begin chewing aspirin while they are waiting for the ambulance. The authors discuss detection and treatment of acute myocardial infarction in a number of different medical settings. Keywords
