Three new cases of central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) were reported. One was a patient with the nephrotic syndrome due to primary amyloidosis, and 2 were patients with severe thermal burns. Alcoholism was definitely absent in 1 of the patients and is questionable in 2 Central pontine myelinolysis was not previously reported in patients with either amyloidosis or thermal burns. The possibilities of either chronic edema or a deficit in fat metabolism were suggested for this disease, but proof was lacking. The probability that CPM was considerably more common than the relatively few reports indicate was stressed.
