Abstract
The determinations of the amount of soil colloids by heat of wetting, absorption methods, or base-exchange, usually give results higher than those for the clay content as determined by mechanical analysis. These properties are, however, possessed by bodies such as silica, silt, and "permutite" which, from the point of view of soil science, can not be termed colloids. At present, the inorganic soil colloid content may be taken as synonymous with the clay content.
