Abstract
Methods for removing sulfur dioxide (SO2) from boiler and furnace exhaust gases have been studied throughout the twentieth century. Early concepts useful for flue gas desulfurization (FGD) appear to have germinated in England circa 1850. The research during this period was motivated primarily by the quest to uncover the fundamental physical properties of substances. Keywords
