Abstract
The correction to nuclear quadrupole moments on account of the quadrupole moment induced in the electron shells has been obtained by solving the Schroedinger equation for the perturbed core wave functions for Li, Al, and Cl. The correction factor by which the average over the valence electron function in the equation for the quadrupole coupling should be multiplied to take account of the induced effect is 1.11, 0.83, and 0.68, respectively. The previously described Thomas-Fermi calculation of this effect has been carried out for 13 additional elements.
