Abstract
There is hardly anything in the world so powerful as an idea whose time has come. This “idea” centers around the process of conserving our soil resources by leaving all crop residues on top of the ground year after year after year. We believe if we take care of our soil today we will have food for tomorrow. In the past this “idea of leaving residues” has produced a negative reaction in the minds of most of the people who were exposed to it, but this use of residues is the most economical way to do it. Not just farmers, but Extension Service people, researchers, Soil Conservation Service employees, and others reacted in a negative way. Not all, of course, but most of these people questioned the wisdom of leaving residues on the surface. And I guess you might even say this was a reasonable reaction because farmer experience and early research demonstrated many problems with this reckless method! This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
