Excitation of a CII line observed in quasars

Abstract
The collision strength for the transition C+2s22P2P0-2s2p24P is calculated from solutions of coupled integro-differential equations. Configuration interaction between 2s22p and 2p3 is allowed for in the 2P0 ground state. All 2s2p2 channels are included. The results have important applications for the interpretation of quasar spectra.Keywords
