Abstract
A survey of diamagnetic 3d transition-metal compounds, and similar compounds with moments of 1 and 2 Bohr magnetons, reveals that the multiplet broadening of the metal 2p3/2 line in the X-ray photoelectron spectrum can in most cases serve as an indicator of small magnetic moments over a wide range of experimental conditions. Keywords
