Abstract
Summary. The work of fracture of wood has been measured and the experimental results have been dis¬cussed in relation to a model based on various morphological aspects of wood structure. The asymmetrical helical structure of the S2 wall layers appears to be relevant to the fracture behaviour of wood in tension. Keywords
