Abstract
The recent industrial growth of Emilia Romagna has not only been focused on a certain number of privileged places but has also invested the whole country. The active industrial population whose average is 42% is present in nearly all the communes except in the South West (Piacenza and Parma mountain) and the North (Ferrara plain). Mixed with rural and tertiary activities this population is particularly numerous in the central area which goes from piémont and extends beyond the plain and even in some places beyond the mountain. The labour carries on its activity in a great number of small and medium-sized industrial plants which never exceed 500 employ ments. The largest industrial plants are themselves scattered and their density is not very different in both small and large communes of the whole country.
