Abstract
Studies on effects of ultrasound on the growth of plants have been performed. However, conditions of exposure to ultrasound were not clear in these studies. This paper reports on the effects of ultrasound on sprouting. Experiments were conducted in a water tank, in which the ultrasonic fields were precisely measured. It was found that the growth of roots was most accelerated at an intensity level almost the same as the cavitation threshold. The amount of water absorbed by the seeds was increased upon ultrasonic exposure. Further, this paper clarified the relationship between acoustic pressure and state of the water absorbed by the seeds. Keywords
