Durable Non-Reactive Flame-Retardant Finishes for Cotton

Abstract
One of the properties of all fiber-reactive, flame-retardant finishes for cottons is reduced fabric tear strength which results in reduced wear life. Decreased mobility within the fabric structure due to cross-linking reactions of the finish is the cause of tear strength losses. Currently available non-reactive finishes have limited durability to laundering. Tris(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate, combined with small amounts of polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, or acrylic polymers and applied to fabrics or garments from organic solvents, provides flame resistance to cotton fabrics which is durable to 15 accelerated mobile launderings.Keywords
