Abstract
The linear response of a metal to an impurity embedded near the surface is treated within the static Hartree approximation. Using a model potential, an analytic expression for the asymptotic form of the displaced charge density oscillations is obtained, allowing the local approximation of Brown et al. (1974-75) to be evaluated. Keywords
