Energy Gap in Nuclear Matter

Abstract
An energy gap in nuclear matter is studied. The nucleon-nucleon potentials with strong repulsive part are used, which can reproduce the experimental phase shifts of the high energy nucleon-nucleon scattering up to 310 Mev. Solving the non-linear equation for the energy gap directly in the momentum space, we can obtain the following results. (i) An energy gap exists in relatively low density and for rather large effective mass (0.2f-1pF ≲1.4f-1 and 0.5mm*m). It does not exist in the very low density and the high density and the small effective mass (pF ≲0.2f-1, pF ≳1.4f-1 and m* ≲0.5m) (ii) In the normal density (pF = 1.42f-1) there exists no energy gap. Qualitative interpretations of the above results are discussed.
