Abstract
From the literature on the functional role of the superior parietal cortex, it can be seen that this cortical area has been attributed both sensory and motor functions, as demonstrated by anatomical and lesion studies. Single-unit recordings in behaving monkeys have equally been interpreted as demonstrating these two functions. However, the results of recent experiments using this technique suggest that area 5 may function in the transformation of sensory activity into motor activity. Keywords
