Abstract
Summary: Attempts were made to isolate measles virus from body fluids and post-mortem tissues from 5 individuals, where death at different stages of the disease could be ascribed to complications from infection with measles virus. Techniques involved preparation and inoculation of body fluids and tissue extracts into pregrown cultures and in patient 25, the additional procedure of culturing the tissues. Measles virus was isolated from tissues in patient 25, who died before onset of rash. No virus was isolated from tissue extracts in patients 23, 24, 26, and 27, in which death occurred 3 to 7 days after the onset of rash.
