Abstract
Dielectric constant, rotation of optical indicatrix and birefringence of KH3(SeO3)2 and KD3(SeO3)2 crystals are investigated depending on temperature and mechanical stress in the region of proper ferroelastic phase transition mmm ← 2/m. Thermodynamic analysis of spontaneous and induced linear and quadratic piezo-optical and piezodielectric effects has been carried out. It is shown experimentally that a new electromechanical effect‐quadratic piezodielectric effect‐is the origin of dielectric anomalies. It is shown that the linear effects (piezo-optic and piezodielectric (electrostriction)) arise in ferroelastic phase due to linearization of corresponding quadratic effects of paraelastic phase. Keywords
