Calcinosis Cutis, Dystrophica, Occurring in Old Scar Due to Lightning Burn. Presented by Dr. Edward L. Murphy. The patient: a white female, age 75. Summary.—Review of the literature indicates this is probably the first case of calcinosis cutis developing in an electric burn due to lightning on record. History.—On a July night, 1929, during a thunder storm, the patient was struck by lightning while attempting to stop water from running down the side of the chimney in an upstairs bedroom of the family home. She sustained severe third-degree burns and unconsciousness which lasted for 24 hours. The burns were treated for a period of three months in a hospital, and she later remained bedridden for two years at home. There were extensive burns of the left shoulder, left forearm, both hands, and over the trochanteric area of the left hip. Contractile scars developed in each of these areas. Keywords
