Renal Venous Thrombosis in Children

Abstract
Thrombosis of the renal venous system, though uncommon, is a potentially serious disorder in childhood. The present paper is a review of the pertinent literature, and two further cases are reported. Gastro-enteritis does not precede haemorrhagic infarction in the majority of clinically diagnosed cases. Males appear to be affected more often than females, the peak incidence in both sexes being in the first month of life. With meticulous attention to fluid and electrolyte imbalance, prompt nephrectomy yields excellent results.
