Abstract
An approximate analysis based upon the matching of boundary layer solutions for the hot and cold walls through an approximate core temperature, is presented for the free convective heat transfer in an enclosure of complex geometry filled with either a Newtonian fluid or a saturated porous medium. The method has been applied to obtain the heat transfer rates for a vertical porous annulus, and is observed to make reasonably accurate predictions regarding the effects of the governing parameters. Keywords
