Abstract
The Harmonic Scalpel is a cutting and coagulating energy source, recently adapted to laparoscopic use, that differs from all other available energy sources. The hemostatic capability of the Harmonic Scalpel has not been evaluated in any large series of gynecologic patients. This is the largest reported study of laparoscopic myomectomies, 25 consecutive procedures, using the Harmonic Scalpel as the primary energy source for cutting the uterine serosa and dissecting myomas from the uterus. The hemostatic cutting capability of the Harmonic Scalpel, in this study, does not appear to be adversely effected by myoma type, myoma size, or previous open myomectomy surgery in properly selected patients, pretreated with a GnRH analog (J GYNECOL SURG 10:241, 1994)Keywords
