Abstract
Dimness of vision due to edema of the corneal epithelium frequently occurs a few hrs. after insertion of a contact lens. The phenomenon is called Sattler''s veil. Normal vision is restored about 20-30 mins. after removal of the lens. A small perforation in the contact lens prevents occurrence of the veil, and also of the irritation which commonly occurs 20 25 mins. after the lens is inserted. The perforation permits the circulation of free air to the corneal tissues, and it appears that the irritation and veiling of the eye have a chemical explanation, probably the result of a gradual rise in pH as the CO2 concn. increases in the pre-corneal space. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
