Abstract
The electromagnetic response of generalized flux phases is calculated by use of a slave-boson large-N formulation of the t-J model. At T=0, we find that, in the limit of half filling, such phases show infinite conductivity, accompanied by zero mode in the phase fluctuations of the theory. Away from half filling, these flux phases show a zero-field Hall effect accompanied by an exciton-type collective mode, which results in a polarization-dependent reflectivity anomaly. It is also found that the static response of such phases resembles that of a zero-temperature semiconductor. These results are discussed in the context of the oxide superconductors. Keywords
