Relativistic calculation of the Breit-Margenau correction in a many-electron atom

Abstract

The relativistic corrections to the Lande factors for the ³P₁ and ¹P₁ levels of the configurations 5s5p of Cd and 6s6p of Hg are calculated from the relativistic Zeeman operator in the central-field approximation. The relativistic corrections are insufficiently accounted for by the Breit-Margenau operator when the coupling deviates from the pure jj scheme.
