Abstract
Practical, handbook-type information on the strength of diamond is scarce and scattered. This paper reports data taken on the breaking strength of good quality, natural diamond octahedra. Average values are 1,261,000 psi in compression, 43,400 psi in torsion, yielding the exceptional ratio, compression divided by torsion, of 29.Keywords
