Abstract
ALTHOUGH it is generally recognized that gastric cancer occurs with increased frequency in patients with pernicious anemia,1 2 3 reported rates vary widely from a low of 0.16 per cent4 to a high of 14.9 per cent.5 Differences in the sampling methods, the relatively small number of patients with pernicious anemia available at any one clinic and the differing criteria utilized for the diagnosis of pernicious anemia contribute to the disparity among these figures.
